What you will do:
An employee in this class is responsible for performing intelligence gathering using various forms of databases; assist in investigations by aiding investigators with pertinent information using both written and oral communications. The work is performed under the observation and review of the Criminal Investigations Division Lieutenant or their designee. Case Documentation & Report Preparation- Prepare and review preliminary and supplemental reports, sketches, diagrams, displays, arrest records, and other case-related documentation.
- Prepare investigative reports that fully and accurately document all investigative activities.
- Consult with District Attorney staff to prepare cases for prosecution.
- Testify before trial courts or Grand Jury regarding investigation findings.
Research & Intelligence Gathering- Conduct Division of Criminal Intelligence (DCI) and Records Management System (RMS) queries to obtain criminal history, driver licensing, and other suspect-related information.
- Research RMS and photographic databases to compile or present legally admissible photographic line-ups.
- Monitor social media platforms for intelligence gathering and investigation support.
- Attend meetings with investigators to provide and identify relevant criminal intelligence.
- Analyze data from cell phones and other digital sources for suspect identification and case development.
- Interpret and analyze static data, such as pen register information.
Field Support & Evidence Handling- Assist investigators with evidence collection and proper documentation.
- Execute court orders and search warrants to obtain data from cell phones, social media, and other digital platforms.
- Monitor video surveillance systems and communicate pertinent information to field officers.
- Operate standard office equipment and surveillance tools used in investigations.
Intelligence Dissemination & Liaison Duties- Disseminate intelligence through databases such as the North Carolina Information Sharing and Analysis Center (NCISAAC) and the Regional Organized Crime Information Center (ROCIC).
- Serve as a Field Liaison Officer for NCISAAC.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:- Law Enforcement Knowledge: Understanding of current law enforcement principles, practices, and procedures.
- Policy and Procedure Awareness: Familiarity with departmental standard operating procedures, as well as federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.
- Technical Proficiency: Awareness of practices, materials, techniques, and equipment relevant to assigned duties.
- Effective Communication: Ability to clearly express thoughts both orally and in writing.
- Team Collaboration: Willingness and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
- Independent Work Ethic: Proven ability to work independently on responsible and confidential assignments.

- Commitment to Training: Willingness to attend overnight training to gain investigative skills and certifications.
- Schedule Flexibility: Availability to work during non-scheduled hours as investigations require
Minimum Qualifications:- Associate’s degree in information technology, business administration, criminal justice or a related field.
- One year of experience in criminal intelligence, crime analysis, information technology, or a related field.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position may also be considered.
- Valid NC Driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:- Bachelor's Degree in information technology, business administration, criminal justice or a related field.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:- Work in this class is described as being sedentary and seldom requires much physical exertion to complete tasks.
- Work typically involves the ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
- Work necessitates visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned in preparing and analyzing figures, accounting, transcription, computer terminal viewing and extensive reading.
