Job summary

The City of Greensboro is seeking a dependable Crew Member (Hydro Helper) to assist the Hydro Operator with water and sewer maintenance tasks in Greensboro. This hands-on role involves outdoor field work, safe practices, and direct community impact.

The position requires teamwork, strong communication, and the ability to follow procedures. On-call rotation and a Monday-Thursday schedule with early morning hours are included, with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required, or equivalent 5 years related experience.
• Valid Class B Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Forklift License, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Experience with hydro truck, water and sewer maintenance activities, sewer collection and distribution systems, confined space entry and/or Hydro truck experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with water distribution and sewer maintenance activities.
• Serve as a backup Hydro Truck operator when the primary operator is unavailable.
• Apply safe work practices related to confined space entry and traffic control.
• Use water and sewer maps to locate and support maintenance activities.
• Follow verbal and written instructions and established safety procedures.
• Prepare and compile accurate maintenance activity reports.
• Handle and transport heavy tools, equipment, and materials needed for field operations.
• Support the crew during routine and emergency maintenance activities.
• Participate in a regular on-call rotation to respond to after-hours needs.

Compensation and Benefits:

About the Role:

As a Crew Member (Hydro Helper), you will assist the Hydro Operator with water and sewer maintenance activities and provide critical support during daily operations and emergency situations.

Key responsibilities include:

• Assisting with water distribution and sewer collection system maintenance activities.
• Serving as a backup Hydro Truck operator when the primary operator is unavailable.
• Applying safe work practices related to confined space entry and traffic control.
• Using water and sewer maps to locate and support maintenance activities.
• Following verbal and written instructions and established safety procedures.
• Preparing and compiling accurate maintenance activity reports.

• Supporting the crew during routine and emergency maintenance activities.

  • "OR" No High School Diploma, but an equivalent of 5 years of directly related experience (e.g., water and sewer maintenance activities, sewer collection and distribution systems, confined space entry and/or Hydro truck experience)
