Job summary

City of Shreveport is seeking a grounds maintenance worker to care for public rights-of-way, parks, and city properties. Duties include mowing, pruning, watering, spraying, fertilizing and litter removal using a variety of tools and equipment.

You may also lead a crew in the absence of a crew leader and assist with loading/unloading of vehicles. Responsibilities extend to painting, cleaning or repairing structures and equipment as needed, and there is local travel to locations within the city.

Qualifications

• One year experience in related work.
• Ability and willingness to follow instructions and perform assigned tasks.
• Must have valid state driver's license.

Responsibilities

Job description

Uses appropriate tools to clean and maintain public rights-of-way.

1. 1. Uses appropriate tools, power tractor, riding mowers, hand mowers, weed eaters, edgers, chain saws and hand tools to weed, prune, water, spray, fertilize, plant remove litter, and mow in the daily upkeep of shrubbery, flowers, trees, grass and other vegetation on public rights-of-way, golf courses, and in city parks.
2. 2. Helps and directs the loading and unloading of assigned vehicles with all appropriate tools, supplies and machinery to perform daily tasks.
3. 3. May be required to paint, clean or make repairs to structures, buildings, grounds or or equipment as needed.
4. 4. May be required to operate heavy equipment if trained and qualified.
5. 5. May be required to operate vehicle or be placed in charge of crew in the absence of crew leader.
6. 6. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Physical Requirements.

1. 1. Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time.
2. 2. Requires moderate to extensive stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing,pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
3. 3. Requires exerting up to50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work Environment.

1. 1.Will be exposed to strong odors, toxic/poisonous agents, smoke, fumes, gas, dirt, dust, grease, oil, pollen, chemicals, solvents, loud noise and disease/pathogens.

3. 3.Will wear protective devices when called for.

Travel:

Travel will be required locally from location to location to accomplish job assignments and visit job sites.
