Job summary

Hinds County Public Works seeks a worker to perform routine and unskilled tasks in maintenance and construction across building grounds and road-related projects. Tasks require limited supervision and basic training is provided.

Responsibilities include cleaning, moving items, equipment maintenance, and assisting with highway and building repairs. This non-exempt, at-will position offers entry-level duties and room for growth as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and three years road work or equivalent experience.
• Alternatively any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and three years.

• Performs tasks which may involve physical activity in cleaning, maintaining, repairing, and beautifying building and grounds.
• Performs physical tasks involved in loading, unloading, and moving furniture, supplies, and equipment.
• Performs routine equipment, machinery, and/or laboratory maintenance or operative duties under limited supervision.
• Performs physical tasks involved in construction, maintenance, and repair of highways, buildings and other structures or facilities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

This work involves performance of a wide variety of routine and/or unskilled activities which are related to the following areas: all types of maintenance, construction, or such other areas as designated by the immediate supervisor. Duties require a limited knowledge of a particular craft or area of work and work is performed under limited supervision of a supervisor. The supervisor provides basic training and instruction in the proper performance of the duties. The incumbent carries out these duties in a manner that does not require continuous and direct supervision.
