Crew Leader – Bucknell University

Job Summary: Bucknell University is seeking an experienced Crew Leader to serve in a hands‑on supervisory role supervising daily grounds maintenance operations on campus. The position involves active participation in maintenance of athletic fields, excavation, paving, and refuse management, as well as scheduling, coordinating, and overseeing all daily grounds maintenance activities.

Position Details: Full‑time, 40 hours per week, staff non‑exempt.

Job Duties (What you will do):

  • Supervise groundskeepers, assign work, prepare and deliver annual performance reviews.
  • Support campus grounds maintenance, events, and labor needs, including turf management, mowing, trimming, tree care, snow removal, refuse collection, event equipment set‑up and tear‑down, and heavy equipment handling.
  • Perform daily inspections of grounds, athletic fields, and paving to identify and report maintenance needs.
  • Recommend appropriate work methods, tool and equipment use, rule changes, and working conditions; assess training needs and conduct required training.
  • Compile bill of materials for new work and repairs, order materials and supplies, and report damaged, stolen, or missing items.
  • Additional non‑essential tasks and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 4 years of related experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Pennsylvania pesticide applicator certification.

Preferred but Not Required:

  • Associate’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of athletic field maintenance, excavation, paving, and refuse management.

Physical Requirements:

  • Outdoor work with daily exposure to various weather conditions.
  • May experience frequent exposure to high noise levels.
  • Proximity to moving mechanical parts, tools, and vehicles.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • May be exposed to conditions that affect the respiratory system (fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation).
