Job Title: Crew Chief

Department: Operations

Reports To: Crew Manager/Crew Coordinator/Operations Manager

Location: Florida, FL

The Crew Chief is a crucial member of our surveying team, responsible for leading and overseeing their survey crew in the execution of land surveying projects. This role involves managing field survey activities, equipment, and personnel to ensure accurate data collection and successful project completion. The Crew Chief plays a pivotal role in maintaining project quality, safety, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Field Survey Operations: Plan, organize, and lead the survey crew in field surveys, including control, boundary, topographic, construction layout, as-built surveys, and other related tasks.
  2. Data Collection: Ensure accurate data collection using surveying instruments such as total stations, GPS, levels, and data collectors.
  3. Survey Control: Supervise the establishment of survey control points, benchmarks, and reference points.
Survey Equipment and Resources
  1. Maintain and manage vehicles and surveying equipment, ensuring they are in optimal condition and calibrated.
  2. Manage inventory of field supplies and equipment for survey projects.
Data Collection and Analysis
  1. Collect, analyze, and verify survey data for maps, plans, and reports.
  2. Identify and resolve discrepancies or errors.
Safety and Compliance
  1. Perform daily Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and vehicle safety inspections per company policy.
  2. Enforce safety protocols to protect the crew and the public.
  3. Ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
Team Leadership
  1. Train, mentor, and guide survey crew members.
  2. Assign tasks, manage schedules, and supervise performance.
  3. Monitor productivity and hours.
Client Communication
  1. Coordinate with clients and project managers regarding project requirements and issues.
  2. Maintain communication with clients and landowners during surveys.
Record Keeping
  1. Maintain accurate records, field notes, and documentation.
  2. Ensure timely upload of data, photos, and reports.
  3. Enter accurate time logs and assist in report preparation.
Qualifications
  1. At least three years of land surveying experience, particularly in renewable energy, with progressively responsible roles.
  2. Proficiency in surveying instruments and software.
  3. Strong knowledge of surveying principles and procedures.
  4. Leadership and team management skills.
  5. Organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  6. Effective communication and client management skills.
  7. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel.

This role involves outdoor work in various weather conditions and occasional travel. Physical requirements include standing for long hours, lifting up to 50 lbs, traversing challenging terrain, and working in extreme weather conditions.
