Your Role and Impact

The Credit Supervisor leads the company's credit and collections function, minimizing credit risk while maximizing profitable sales. This involves investigating customer creditworthiness, establishing credit terms and limits, managing collections, developing and implementing credit policies, and supervising credit staff. The Credit Supervisor will also collaborate with sales and other departments, leverage technology to streamline operations, and maintain strong relationships with customers and industry peers.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Credit Risk Management: Investigate and analyze the credit standing of existing and potential customers, including major distributors, advanced product group accounts, and online/e-commerce accounts. Determine appropriate credit limits and payment terms based on financial analysis, industry trends, and risk assessment tools. Regularly review and update customer credit lines.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate the performance of credit personnel (Credit Specialists, Senior Credit Representatives, and Credit Representatives). Provide guidance on day-to-day activities, including shipment release approvals. Assist in departmental administrative duties.
  • Collections Management: Oversee the collection process, guiding the team in developing effective strategies for delinquent accounts. Monitor key collection metrics (DSO, bad debt ratio, etc.) and implement strategies to improve performance. Counsel and negotiate with customers to improve financial controls, suggest sources of working capital, and establish special credit arrangements and payment schedules.
  • Policy Development and Implementation: Develop, recommend, implement, and administer company credit and collection policies and procedures that align with business objectives and best practices. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., FCRA).
  • Financial Analysis and Cash Forecast: Analyze customer financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements) to assess creditworthiness and identify potential risks. Stay current on financial analysis techniques and industry benchmarks. Perform collection and sales dilution deductions timing analysis and incorporate findings to increase cash collection forecast accuracy.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate effectively with sales, customer service, and other departments to ensure a consistent and customer-centric approach to credit and collections. Communicate regularly with customers regarding credit terms, payment issues, and account status. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required by special circumstances.

Your Profile

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive supervising experience in credit and collections, with a proven track record of success.
  • Strong understanding of financial analysis, credit risk assessment, and collection techniques.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in using credit management software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Certified Credit Professional (CCP) designation is a plus.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations (e.g., FCRA, UCC).
