Job summary

HID Global Corporation in Austin, TX seeks a Credentials Engineer to design, develop and validate credential products, blending materials science with manufacturing feasibility. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with polymer-based materials (PC, PVC, PET).
  • Experience in manufacturing, process engineering, or product development.
  • Strong understanding of material behavior under thermal and pressure conditions.
  • Ability to translate material properties into manufacturable designs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to perform engineering calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Identify CPI opportunities and share findings with Global teams.
  • Develop credential constructions including materials, layer stack-ups, and physical architecture.
  • Ensure designs meet security, functional, and durability requirements.
  • Define manufacturing feasibility and process constraints (lamination, adhesion, thermal interaction).
  • Develop and execute validation plans and testing methods for new designs.
  • Translate product concepts into production-ready solutions.
  • Support development of new credential products and enhancements.
  • Integrate new technologies (polycarbonate, dual interface, digital print).
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Sales, Marketing, and suppliers.
  • Provide technical feasibility input for new customer opportunities.
  • Support development of standards and repeatable engineering frameworks.

This role sits at the intersection of materials science, manufacturing, and security, focusing on the design, construction, and manufacturability of HID credential products. The Credential Engineering role supports the development of new credential technologies and ensures feasibility prior to customer commitment.

Responsibilities
  • Identify Continuous Product Innovation (CPI) opportunities and share findings with Global teams.
  • Develop credential constructions including materials, layer stack-ups, and physical architecture.

  • Strong understanding of material behavior under thermal and pressure conditions (lamination, bonding, adhesion).
  • Ability to translate material properties into manufacturable designs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to perform engineering calculations.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, ISO standards, etc.
  • Dependable team player who can work independently in a fast-paced environment and resolve conflicts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Windows OS and Microsoft Office; strong PC technical skills.
  • Experience with printing equipment a plus; lamination, multi-layer construction, or composite materials a plus.
  • Experience with printing, coating, or converting processes a plus; adhesives, films, or surface treatments a plus.
  • Experience with failure analysis, testing, and DOE a plus; cross-global teams or suppliers a plus.
  • Experience with secure or regulated products a plus; Oracle ERP and Agile PLM knowledge a plus; SolidWorks/CAD a plus.
