Job description

Camden Animal Hospital, an independently owned and operated veterinary practice in Camden, AR, is looking to have an experienced, credentialed Veterinary Technician to join our team. We are a full service, small animal hospital and we are focused on providing the best possible care to our patients. We want the right people to work with us to create a practice that honors the importance of pets in our lives by ensuring that high level of care, and providing a great experience for our clients, and support for each other.

The veterinary technician is the doctor’s primary medical support person. They begin the examination procedure and continue to assist the doctor throughout the examination, diagnosis and treatment phases. They aid the doctors in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical work and administrative detail. They have a very significant role in communicating with clients about their pets.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide compassionate patient care.
  • Adhere to hospital medical policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms and treatment areas.
  • Perform physical examinations and record observations.
  • Assist in medical, surgical, and dental procedures; prepare patients for surgery and anesthesia; monitor patients during surgery and recovery.
  • Administer injections and oral medications as per hospital policy.
  • Perform emergency procedures (bleeding control, resuscitation, etc.).
  • Assist in restraining pets when necessary.
  • Conduct clinical lab procedures (fecal exams, heartworm checks, blood draws, etc.).
  • Take radiographs and administer EKGs and EEGs.
  • Admit and discharge patients per doctor's orders, counsel clients on animal care, and make follow-up calls.
  • Understand and explain prescription drug usage and dosage to clients.
  • Clean and stock surgical materials and operating room.
  • Maintain medical supply inventory.
  • Assist other staff as needed and follow oral and written directions.
  • Maintain positive, cooperative relationships with colleagues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • EDUCATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Veterinary Technician Certification
  • EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
    • Minimum of 1 year experience as veterinary technician or assistant preferred.
  • PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Genuinely enjoys working with animals and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed or ill or in pain.
    • Can stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
    • Is able to work effectively with doctors.
    • Is experienced in the teamwork approach and works well with all hospital staff members.
    • Has excellent client communication skills.
    • Must be able to lift and/or restrain animals weighing over 40 lbs.
    • Must be able to walk or stand for long periods of time, and able to work frequently in a bent position.
