Job summary

NewYork-Presbyterian / Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a Creative Arts Therapist for the CPEP in the Psychiatry Emergency Department. This full-time day shift (8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Monday–Friday) focuses on individual and group art therapy to support emotional expression, coping, and recovery during acute behavioral health care.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Creative Arts Therapy or related field.
• Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) credential.
• Current credential in a Creative Arts Therapy specialty (ATR/MT-BC/Dramatic/Drama Therapy) is preferred.
• BCLS certification.
• Completion of a clinical internship in a Creative Arts Therapy discipline.
• Proficiency in modalities of the candidate's specialty.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Advanced interpersonal skills for engaging patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients' psychosocial, emotional, developmental, and therapeutic needs using creative arts therapy principles.
• Develop and implement individualized and group treatment plans.
• Use art therapy interventions to support coping with hospitalization and anxiety.
• Facilitate therapeutic programming for coping, expression, socialization, and well-being.
• Communicate observations and progress to the interdisciplinary team.
• Provide education to patients, families and staff about therapy benefits.
• Maintain accurate documentation in medical records and reporting systems.
• Contribute to program development, quality improvement, and professional development.
• Maintain licensure and stay current with evidence-based practices.
