Job description

Our client, a premium debt fund that primarily focuses on bridge/construction finance and emphasizes personal relationships and superior client service, seeks an experienced CRE Loan Underwriter to join their growing, entrepreneurial team.

The CRE Loan Underwriter works closely with the firm's Chief Credit Officer and partners on reviewing client information, preparing LOIs and deal memos, creating construction budgets, and monitoring loans for signs of trouble.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years' experience in commercial real estate credit analysis, loan structuring, and borrower interaction. They are self-motivated, analytically minded, and strong communicators with emotional intelligence.

This role is primarily remote, with a small office located in Calabasas, North San Fernando Valley.

A typical day includes, but is not limited to:

1. Negotiating loan terms and provisions with clients alongside the salesperson.
2. Preparing LOIs for new transactions for partner approval.
3. Reviewing and analyzing all loan information, including formation documents, budgets, property details, entitlement status, title reports, insurance, purchase documents, and proformas.
4. Ordering and reviewing credit reports, background investigations, and BICA reports.
5. Preparing deal memos for review and approval by partners and the Investment Committee.
6. Proactively identifying early signs of troubled or potentially troubled loans.
7. Creating construction loan budgets and managing draw processes.
8. Collaborating closely with the Chief Credit Officer on construction loan administration.
9. Reviewing inspection reports, paying attention to inspector comments, reallocations, contingency reserves, interest reserves, and potential issues.
10. Assisting the Chief Credit Officer with various borrower needs outside normal loan activities.

The requirements for the ideal CRE Loan Underwriter include:

• Minimum 10 years' experience in credit analysis, loan structuring, and client interaction.
• Understanding of Events of Default, legal rights, remedies, and processes.
• Familiarity with Construction Loan Agreements (CLA) and ability to quickly understand proprietary loan documents.
• Ability to work remotely and independently efficiently.
• Willingness to attend weekly remote company meetings.
• Ability to assess site feasibility and accurately report on construction projects.
• Experience handling loan extensions and reviewing related documents for compliance.
