Job summary

Akima Facilities Operations (AFO) seeks an experienced carpenter with strong packing and crating skills to design and build custom crates for equipment and assets. You will measure, cut, assemble, and finish crates, ensuring they meet contract specifications and safety requirements.

Responsibilities include producing crates, wiring labeling, and maintaining inspection records. Strong math, tool proficiency, and attention to detail are essential for success at this on-site role.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a carpenter with packing/crating experience.
• Ability to design and build custom crates.
• Proficiency with woodworking tools, fasteners, adhesives, and protective interior fittings.
• Knowledge of basic math for measuring, tolerance, and material calculations.
• Understanding of shipping/receiving procedures and crate labeling conventions.
• Ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening.
• REAL ID-compliant driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Pack and crate production.
• Design, measure, cut, assemble, and finish wooden crates, boxes, pallets, and custom packing solutions.
• Build vibration-dampening and weather-resistant crates; retrofit and repair when needed.
• Ensure packing solutions meet contract specs and government standards; apply labeling and documentation.
• Maintain records of materials, dimensions, weights, and crate specs for each project.
• Inspect crates for structural integrity and address defects.
• Suggest improvements to packing methods to reduce shipping risk.
