Job summary

Gem Equipment of Oregon is seeking a Crating Clerk to prepare, crate, and ship finished parts for industrial blanchers and fryers. You will assemble crates, pad and secure parts, inspect for damage, and coordinate with production and shipping to meet schedules.

You'll operate hand tools and a forklift, maintain ERP records, print packing slips, and ensure a clean, safe work environment while following all safety guidelines and company procedures.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required plus basic math, reading, and writing.
  • Previous vocational or technical training in manufacturing, shipping, or material handling is a plus.
  • Experience with hand tools and basic safety protocols is needed.

SummaryThis position is responsible for preparing, packaging, and securing finished parts for industrial blanchers and fryers for shipment, ensuring products are protected during transit and arrive in excellent condition. The Crating Clerk will assemble crates, apply appropriate padding and support, coordinate with production and shipping teams to meet delivery schedules, operate hand tools and forklifts safely, maintain accurate inventory and shipping records in the ERP system, and collaborate with production and shipping teams to prioritize tasks. This role also involves inspecting finished products for damage prior to crating, maintaining a clean and safe work area, adhering to company standards and safety protocols throughout the packaging process, labeling, documenting and assisting with the loading of crates while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment.Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssemble wooden or metal crates according to product specifications and shipping requirements.Secure industrial parts for blanchers and fryers using padding, supports, straps, and other protective materials.Inspect products for damage or defects before crating to ensure quality standards.Collaborate with production and shipping teams to schedule and prioritize crating tasks.Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company safety protocols.Operate hand tools, power tools, and material-handling equipment safely and efficiently.Label and document crates accurately for shipping and inventory tracking.Report any issues, damages, or discrepancies to supervisors promptly.Assist in loading crates onto trucks or shipping containers when necessary.Follow company guidelines for packaging, handling, and transport of heavy or fragile equipment.Perform computer-based tasks, including reviewing job records in the ERP system to verify accuracy and confirm all required parts are included.Operate a forklift to safely move, stage, and handle materials in accordance with company procedures.Scan parts into the Ready-to-Ship (RTS) location to ensure accurate inventory tracking.Generate and print packing slips and related shipping documentation to support outbound order processing.Perform other duties as assigned.ExpectationsEnsure all products are crated securely and accurately to prevent damage during transit.Maintain consistent attention to detail and follow all company packaging standards.Work efficiently to meet daily production and shipping schedules.Operate tools and equipment safely and responsibly at all times.Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding issues or delays.Adhere strictly to safety protocols and company policies.Take initiative to identify and suggest improvements in crating and packaging processes.Ensure all parts are accurately recorded in the ERP system.Safely operate a forklift to move and stage materials.Scan parts into RTS accurately for inventory tracking.Prepare correct packing slips and shipping documents.Maintain punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.Respectfully take direction from manager.Manager ResponsibilitiesThis position does not have management responsibilities.QualificationsTo successfully perform this job, an individual must be able to carry out each essential duty satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of themselves or others.
