SCOPE OF POSITION:

Performs duties to prepare and pack parts for shipping, according to established practices, special instructions, or in compliance with particular requirements related to the shipping order. Reads blueprints as necessary. Builds crates and boxes around items to be shipped. Operates saws, drills, and punches, forming equipment to fabricate material to specifications. Loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near the plant, yard, or work site by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Ensure guards and safety devices are installed and operating properly. Perform required equipment safety inspections. Report any discrepancies to the Production Supervisor and/or Production Scheduler and shut equipment down if necessary.
  • Read job orders to determine requirements and the most cost-effective way to cut material using drops when available. Pull required material and visually inspect for defects.
  • Ensure proper material, size, profile, and color are supplied for the job.
  • Set up and operate saw equipment to cut stock to specified size and shape, including angular cuts. Position fixtures and clamps for proper cut direction.
  • Use other shop equipment as needed, such as circular saws, drills, punch and dies presses. Perform safety checks and document as required.
  • Check pieces with measuring tools, adjusting machine settings to meet specifications.
  • Receive work assignments from Lead Person or Production Supervisor, determine requirements from work order, drawings, and instructions.
  • Review work requirements and check completed work to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Complete paperwork, data entry, and records as required.
  • Store cut material properly.
  • Maintain appropriate lubricant levels, replace dull blades, and check airline pressure to ensure proper operation.
  • Examine parts for defects or damage, notify Lead Person of issues, and clean products as needed. Mark and verify cartons for contents and markings.
  • Move materials or products using material handling equipment such as hand trucks and dollies.
  • Build crates and boxes around items, checking against packing lists.
  • Load and unload materials, and secure items for transit.
  • Identify materials with tags or labels.
  • Load materials into vehicles and secure for transportation.
  • Develop schedules for material handling based on notices and warehousing space.
  • Operate industrial trucks or hoists as needed.
  • Ensure quality through accuracy and attention to detail, and seek opportunities for process improvement.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, dispose of scrap properly, and minimize waste.
  • Report problems or difficulties to supervisors.
  • Use personal fall protection equipment if required.
  • Conform to ISO 14001 standards and the company's Environmental Management System.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED; 12-24 months related experience or training, or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, including drawings and safety manuals. Effective communication skills for one-on-one and small group interactions.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, handle objects, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, sit, climb, and balance. Ability to taste or smell is optional.
  • Regularly lift/move up to 25 pounds; frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
