Scope Of Position

Performs duties to prepare and pack parts for shipping, according to established practices, special instructions, or in compliance with particular requirements related to the shipping order. Read blueprints as necessary. Builds crates and boxes around items to be shipped. Operates saws, drills, and punches, forming equipment to fabricate material to specifications. Loads, unloads and moves materials with in or near plant, yard or work site by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Ensures that guards and safety devices are installed and operating properly. Performs required equipment safety inspections. Reports any discrepancies to Production Supervisor and/or Production Scheduler and shuts equipment down if necessary.
  • Reads job orders to determine job requirements and most cost-effective way to cut material using drops when available. Pulls required material as necessary and visually inspect material for obvious defects.
  • Ensures proper material, size, profile, color has been supplied for the job.
  • Sets up and operates saw equipment to cut proper color and profile stock to the size and shape specified by job order, either straight or angular cuts. Positions fixtures and clamps to properly locate direction of cut.
  • Uses other shop equipment as needed, such as circular saw, hand drill or drill press, punch and dies press. Performs safety checks and documentation as required.
  • Checks pieces with ruler and square, making adjustments to machine settings and fixtures to comply with specifications.
  • After receiving work assignments from the Lead Person or Production Supervisor, determines requirements from work order, drawings, and other instructions.
  • Reviews job requirements and checks completed work to ensure those manufactured products comply with requirements and meet quality standards.
  • Completes paperwork, computer data entry, and any other records required.
  • Stores cut material in proper place.
  • Checks quantity of lubricant in reservoir, replenishes as needed, and adjusts flow to prevent damage to parts being cut and jamming of saw teeth. Removes dull blades and replaces with sharp blades. Checks airline pressure and operates equipment at established minimum.
  • Examines parts, visually, for any defects or damage and notifies Lead Person of issues prior to wrapping. Cleans dust, grease, fingerprints, scratches, and blemishes off products with available cleaners. Marks and verifies cartons for contents, job number, address and any other special marks.
  • Moves materials or products using material handling equipment such as hand truck and dolly. Uses hand tools, knife, tape dispenser, hand stapler, weighing or measuring instruments, pneumatic staple guns, strapper, and other equipment as needed.
  • Builds crates and boxes around items of a wide range of sizes and shapes to be shipped, checking items against packing list.
  • Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks and shelves.
  • Identifies material by attaching tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales or other containers.
  • Loads materials into vehicles and installs strapping, bracing or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
  • Studies receiving or shipping notices, requests for movement of raw materials and finished products, and warehousing space available to develop schedule for material handling activities.
  • Operates industrial truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and product.
  • Assures quality of work through accuracy, neatness, paying attention to details, thorough understanding of information, with minimal amount of rework. Conveys personal commitment to quality by demonstrating good quality behavior. Identifies and acts upon opportunities to improve quality of material or process.
  • Maintains work area, equipment and supplies in neat and orderly condition. Disposes of scrap and chips according to instructions. Uses judgment to minimize scrap by using drops from one job on other jobs.
  • Refers any problems or difficulties to Lead Person or Production Supervisor.
  • May be required to use personal fall protection equipment in certain situations.
  • Ensures conformance to all aspects of the ISO 14001 standard and Construction Specialties’ Environmental Management System (EMS), including its environmental policy while performing job functions that may have a significant impact on the environment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE/ EDUCATION: (Minimum Education and/or Experience required)

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); twelve to twenty-four months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as job orders including drawings and specifications, safety rules and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence. Needs to have the ability to effectively present information in a one‑on‑one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
