Job summary

Veit & Company, Inc. is seeking a construction laborer to perform strenuous manual tasks at job sites and assist other craft workers. You will follow safety protocols, operate and handle materials, and help ensure a clean, safe work environment.

The role requires OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR, and ability to read and act on written and verbal instructions. Union affiliation or willingness to join is part of the conditions; 8–10 hour shifts and possible weekend work are common.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, six to twelve months of construction experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to work with equipment, materials, and supplies found in construction work. Ability to follow proper use and safety guidelines at all times.
• OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR, and demonstrated knowledge of applicable safety precautions and procedures.
• Ability to view and understand safety training video.
• Willingness and ability to perform manual work.
• Good communication skills both oral and written when working with all levels of management and employees, external vendors and other business associates.
• Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions. Must have good interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency as required by management and/or project requirements.
• Torching experience.
• Crane rigging experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor at construction sites.
• Follow proper safety and incident reporting procedures and escalate concerns to supervisors.
• Load and unload trucks and haul and hoist materials.
• Maintain a clean job site and secure tools and equipment daily.
• Identify and ensure underground utilities are located prior to excavating.
• Review trenching requirements with Supervisors and ensure protection is available.
• Keep supervisors informed of actions that may affect project operations.
• Other duties as assigned by management.
