Job summary

Bohl Crane, Inc. is looking for a Project Manager to design, manage, and successfully close crane projects that meet customer expectations.

You will ensure scheduling efficiency, clear communication with customers and production teams, and outstanding service throughout the project lifecycle. Responsibilities include crane design in AutoCAD, preparing design specs and project files, coordinating installations, procuring materials, and maintaining budgets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering or project management field.
  • 5+ years engineering experience preferred.
  • Background in mechanical engineering, steel construction, or related fields strongly preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective time management and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and lead when necessary.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 35 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Design and document crane drawings in AutoCAD for customer approval.
  • Prepare design documentation, specification sheets, and project files following safety standards.
  • Manage multiple crane and lifting device projects and coordinate with Sales to confirm specs.
  • Coordinate installation schedules with customers, fabrication shop and installation crews.
  • Assist Crew Leaders in diagnosing field issues and developing workable solutions.
  • Travel to customer sites for site and measurement reviews, meetings, and project support.
  • Order materials, hardware, and components for crane fabrication and installation.
  • Participate in jobsite safety planning and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain project documentation, budgets, and monitor costs.
  • Review vendor quotes, invoices, and material receipts for assigned projects.

Job Summary:

The Project Manager is responsible for designing, managing, and successfully closing projects that exceed customer expectations. This role ensures efficient scheduling, effective communication with customers and production employees, and outstanding customer service. The position also identifies opportunities to reduce costs, improve processes, and enhance value for Bohl.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Design amp; Documentation

  • Create detailed crane drawings in AutoCAD for customer approval.
  • Prepare design documentation, specification sheets, and project files in accordance with engineering, OSHA, ANSI, and CMAA safety standards.

Project Management

  • Manage multiple crane and lifting device projects and collaborate with the Sales team to confirm specifications.
  • Coordinate installation schedules with customers, fabrication shop and installation crews.
  • Assist Crew Leaders in diagnosing field issues or obstructions and developing workable solutions.
  • Travel to customer sites as needed for site and measurement reviews, meetings, and project support.

Procurement

  • Order materials, hardware, and components necessary for crane fabrication and installation.
  • Work with the parts staff to generate and manage purchase orders; track deliveries and coordinate with vendors as needed.

Safety Competency

  • Participate in jobsite safety planning and ensure crews receive accurate, safe installation instructions.
  • Identify hazards and recommend risk‑mitigation strategies during both design and installation phases.
  • Support and model a safety‑first culture across engineering, fabrication, and installation teams.
  • Authority to stop production in the event due to poor quality, unsafe parts or conditions appear.

Administrative Requirements

  • Maintain accurate and organized project documentation, including schedules, change orders, design updates, reports, and project closeout records.
  • Manage project budgets and monitor costs to ensure financial targets are met.
  • Review and approve vendor quotes, invoices, and material receipts related to assigned projects.
  • Ensure all documentation meets internal quality requirements and audit standards.
  • Support Engineering Manager with administrative tasks such as report creation, data analysis, and workflow improvements.

Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate Supervisor and/or Manager, which may be outside the scope of responsibilities noted above.

Position Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural, Mechanical, Civil, Industrial Engineering, or Project Management.

Experience

  • 5+ years of engineering experience preferred.
  • Background in mechanical engineering, steel construction, or related fields strongly preferred.
