Job summary

Commercial Metals in Mesa, AZ is seeking a dedicated team member for furnace support, loading scrap with a cab-operated overhead crane and following safety procedures. You will work in a fast-paced environment, communicate production needs, and help ensure efficient furnace operation.

You must be reliable, detail-oriented, and able to lift up to 50 lbs, with basic computer skills and flexibility to work rotating shifts, including weekends. Training and advancement opportunities are available.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work on rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to work overtime as required.
  • Basic computer skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the CMC Safety Programs and uphold the CMC Safety Culture.
  • Load scrap into the furnace in accordance with heat requirements and loading procedures.
  • Understand crane hand signals and communications.
  • Communicate production issues, concerns, and needs with the team.
  • Ensure equipment inspection reports are completed each shift.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of methods and procedures.
  • Maintain daily housekeeping in the work area.
  • Troubleshoot problems using knowledge and teamwork.
  • Understand start up, shutdown, and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The primary responsiblity of the individual will be supplying the furnace with scrap using a cab operated overhead crane.

What You'll Do
  • Participate in the CMC Safety Programs and proactively uphold the CMC Safety Culture
  • Exercise care to select and load scrap in accordance with heat requirements and established charge conveyor loading procedures to meet furnace requirements and prevent damage to the conveyor
  • Basic understanding of crane hand signals and communications
  • Effectively communicate with others about possible production issues, concerns, and needs
  • Ensure equipment inspection reports are filled out each shift
  • Responsible for continuous improvement such as suggesting improvements in work methods and procedures
  • Responsible for daily housekeeping duties including but not limited to immediate work area
  • Troubleshoot work related problems using job knowledge, experience, and by communicating with others
  • Understand start up, shutdown, and emergency procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need
  • Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment, with excellent strong work ethic, attention to detail, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with exposure to extremes in temperature, chemical, dust fumes and mists, uneven surfaces, loud noise, elevated work areas, and confined spaces
  • Basic computer skills
  • Dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Work on a rotating shift which may include weekends and holidays
  • Ability to work overtime as required, including planned schedules and unplanned emergency situations
Your Education
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
