Job summary

Valmont Industries in El Dorado, KS, is seeking a Crane Operator for the evening shift to run overhead bridge cranes and secure and move loads in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate will have math and shop drawing literacy, tape measure reading skills, and a year of crane operation experience while adhering to safety rules and PPE requirements. Training and certification in crane operations are provided as needed.

Qualifications

• The ability to calculate simple mathematics and interpret shop drawings.
• The ability to read a tape measure.
• The ability to become Valmont trained and certified overhead crane.
• One year previous experience operating overhead bridge crane.

Responsibilities

• Determine load weights and check against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
• Operate cranes with remotes for lifting, moving, and placing loads.
• Inspect cables and grappling devices for wear.
• Inspect crane mechanisms and lifting accessories to prevent malfunctions.
• Review daily work and delivery schedules to determine orders and loading instructions.
• Apply rigging and moving procedures to ensure safety and quality of product.
• Provide materials, tools, and supplies to other workers as needed.
• Set up and operate grinding machines and grind metal work pieces as required.

This position will be exposed to all hazards located at manufacturing sites including noise, fumes, excessive heat/cold, dust, welding arc, all chemicals associated with the manufacturing areas, smoke and confined spaces. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. The job requires safety glasses, hearing protection, and metatarsal safety shoes be worn at all times. The employee must be able to spend the entire work shift on their feet within the shop environment. The incumbent must also be able to wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) for working in the production facility.**Hazards:**This job requires handling metal objects some of which have sharp edges. Extreme care and awareness should be taken for all production jobs. Below are some common hazards that exist for this particular position.
