Job summary

Valmont is hiring for a crane/material handler role in Columbus, NE. You will be responsible for operating overhead cranes and forklifts, inspecting equipment, and following detailed loading instructions.

This full-time weekend shift position requires safety‑conscious workers who can read and execute written instructions while lifting up to 50 pounds. Ideal candidates have crane/machinery experience in manufacturing, a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to work in a fast-paced

Qualifications

• Must be able to operate an overhead crane safely and effectively.
• Certified to operate material handling equipment including cranes and forklifts.
• Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds consistently.
• Must stand/walk up to 90% of shift with safety awareness.
• Experience in manufacturing or fabrication settings preferred.

Responsibilities

Training will be Monday through Thursday from 6:30am to 4:30pm. Upon successful completion of training will transition to Weekend Day Shift. This position will work Weekend Shift, 12 hour shifts, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. There will be a 4 hour attendance pay for completion of 36 hours.

How you will contribute

• Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities in order to prevent overload
• Operate cranes for lifting, moving, and placing loads
• Inspect and adjust crane mechanisms and lifting accessories in order to prevent malfunctions and damage
• Operate forklifts to bring materials into and out of the building
• Review daily work and delivery schedules to determine orders, sequences of deliveries, and special loading instructions
• Demonstrate excellent safety practices and behaviors which conform to all Valmont safety policy and procedures

What it takes

• The ability to run an overhead crane safely and effectively
• The ability to operate and be certified for material handling equipment including cranes and forklifts
• The ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions
• The ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• The ability to stand and walk up to 90% of the shift
• The ability to identify and communicate maintenance or product problems to departmental supervision
• Must have a high awareness for safety at all times
• The ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment

Highly qualified candidates will also possess

• High School diploma or GED equivalent
• One year of previous experience with overhead crane operations
• One year of previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
• The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner
• The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions
• Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
