Job Summary:
The Shipyard Crane Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating cranes within a shipyard environment to facilitate the movement of heavy materials, equipment, and components for ship construction, repair, and maintenance activities. THIS POSITION IS FOR 2nd SHIFT.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Operate electric, hydraulic, and friction cranes safely and efficiently.
  2. Lift, move, position, and place materials, supplies, and equipment within designated areas of the shipyard.
  3. Follow signal instructions from hook tender or other crane operators to ensure safe crane movements.
  4. Operate crane controls to regulate speed and direction based on instructions.
  5. Inspect crane machinery before operation and identify any defects or maintenance needs.
  6. Follow safety procedures and regulations at all times.
  7. Maintain records of crane operations, including materials moved and hours worked.
  8. Read and understand crane load rating charts and diagrams, applying notes and warnings appropriately.
  9. Identify site conditions affecting crane operation and understand manufacturer's operating manual.
  10. Coordinate with shipyard personnel to optimize workflow.
  11. Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
  12. Perform tasks requiring physical stamina and dexterity in various weather conditions.
  13. Maintain hand-eye coordination and depth perception.
  14. Perform as a hook tender and operate heavy industrial vehicles as needed.
  15. Wear personal protective equipment when required.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; vocational training preferred.
  • 2-5 years of crane operation experience in a shipyard or similar setting.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of rigging experience.
  • Knowledge of crane operation principles and safety protocols.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and pass written exam.
  • Compliance with OSHA and company safety rules.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work with project, rig, and crane teams.
  • Understanding of danger areas and personnel control during operations.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift heavy objects for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity and coordination.
  • Visual acuity and depth perception.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
Work Environment

Exposure to loud noises, vibrations, hazardous materials, and various weather conditions. Strict safety adherence and PPE use required.
