Overview

The Crane Operator is responsible for operating an overhead crane to lift, move, position, and reposition loads. The Operator controls crane functions by depressing buttons as well as manipulating levers. The Operator will be required to safely move steel around to support warehouse operations such as loading and unloading trucks, saws, and other equipment. The crane operator must always have full control of the equipment and the load in a professional, safe manner, maximizing productivity by planning moves efficiently.

Responsibilities

1. Operate overhead crane.
2. Perform daily safety checks of equipment.
3. Obey all safety rules.
4. Operate crane to load and unload material off trucks.
5. Ensure all material is stored correctly.
6. Move material within the warehouse using the crane.
7. Operate crane to load/unload processing equipment.
8. Ensure equipment has an order staged and is never sitting idle.
9. Collaborate with supervisors to streamline workflow.
10. Maintain cleanliness of warehouse and work area.
11. Participate in safety meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.
12. Accurately complete paperwork.
13. Communicate effectively with team members to ensure successful order fulfillment.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:

• Prior experience is a plus but not required.
• Ability to meet or exceed productivity standards safely.
• Effective planning and organization skills, able to work independently and in a team.
• Knowledge of material and inventory control techniques.
• Good communication skills for inter-departmental coordination.

Other

• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds occasionally. Must have good vision and the ability to adjust focus.
