Job summary

Granite Construction in Tucson, AZ is seeking a Crane Operator to safely operate hydraulic, friction, or crawler cranes on heavy civil projects. You will perform daily safety inspections, rig loads within charted limits, and assist with other duties to support the crew.

The role requires 1–3 years of crane operating experience, a current NCCCO certification, a valid driver's license, and the ability to work day, swing, or night shifts in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Current NCCCO Crane Operator Certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Operate hydraulic, friction, or crawler cranes safely according to manufacturer load charts.
• Perform daily pre/post shift safety inspections and document per policy.
• Rig loads within equipment load limits and ensure proper rigging.
• Assist crew with non-operational tasks as needed.

We’re building more than infrastructure; we are building your future.**General Summary**This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of hydraulic, friction and/or crawler cranes to lift, move, position and/or reposition heavy loads on a construction site.**Essential Job Accountabilities*** Responsible for maintaining safe crane operations as per company and manufacturers procedures within the crane’s capabilities.* Ensure that the crane is configured according to the manufactures load charts, range diagrams and recommendations.* Ensure that any deficiencies that affect the safe operation are repaired before operating the crane.* Perform daily pre and post shift, safety inspections, complete appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies as required.* Ensure that all lifts are within load limits of equipment and correctly rigged.* Ensure that the boom angle and/or radius of the crane are in accordance with the load charts and range diagrams.* Support crew when not operating crane with general duties to complete work.* May operate other heavy equipment including but not limited to forklifts, skid steers.* Ensure work area and equipment is clean and free of safety hazards.* Perform other duties as assigned.## **Education:*** High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience.**Work Experience:*** One (1) to three (3) years previous crane operating experience, preferably on heavy civil construction projects including bridges, highway, transit, and rail.* Current NCCCO Crane Operator Certification, **required****.*** Experience operating heavy equipment including but not limited to forklifts, skid steers, preferred.* Valid Driver’s License.## Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:* Knowledge of rigging and load limits.* Knowledge and understanding of various types of rigging equipment, basic hitches, and their applications.* Knowledge and understanding of standard hand signals and communications for controlling crane operations.* Ability to calculate and determine appropriate lifting equipment.* Ability to operate equipment within designated area with attention to detail*.** Ability to work, day, swing, and night shifts (occasionally extended hours).* Ability to work in constant exposure to outside elements, in all weather conditions.* Ability to work in safety sensitive construction setting, including exposure to moving machinery and heavy equipment.* Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment.* Ability to squat, crawl, and work in awkward positions/confined spaces.## **Physical Demands:*** Physical dexterity, stamina, and excellent hand-eye coordination with ability to: grasp, assemble, and lift objects, stand, sit, and walk for extended periods over uneven surfaces, squat, bend, climb ladders onto equipment or other objects, and potentially lie down.* Lifting, pushing, pulling of heavy items weighing up to 50 lbs. or more.**About Granite Construction Incorporated**Granite Construction Incorporated is a member of the S&P 400 Index and is the parent company of Granite Construction Company, one of the nation's largest heavy civil contractors and construction materials producers.
