Job summary

Doing Steel is seeking skilled Overhead Steel Crane Operators to safely operate and maintain overhead cranes, lifting, moving, and positioning heavy structural steel elements on the production site.

You will follow OSHA/ASME B30 safety requirements, perform inspections, read load charts, coordinate with riggers and ground crew, and keep logs of operations and maintenance. High school diploma and 1–2 years' crane experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Overhead crane operator certification (e.g., OSHA 10 or 30) required.
• 1–2 years' overhead crane experience in industrial or construction settings.
• Knowledge of rigging techniques, load handling, and crane mechanics.
• Strong English communication, attention to detail, and teamwork.

Doing Steel is looking for Overhead Steel Crane Operators who will be responsible for safely operating and maintaining overhead cranes to lift, move, and position heavy loads. You'll be working with great team members focusing First On Safety to ensure that materials are moved and loaded for successful operation of production needs.

Job Duties

• Operating Cranes: Operate overhead cranes with precision to lift, move, and position heavy structural steel elements and materials across the production site
• Safety Compliance: Follow OSHA, ASME B30, and company safety procedures; perform pre-shift and post-shift inspections of crane components (hoist, trolley, bridge, hook, cables, limit switches, controls, safety devices)
• Load Handling: Read and interpret load charts, rigging plans, and blueprints; select and inspect rigging gear to ensure rated capacity and compatibility
• Coordination: Communicate clearly with riggers, signal persons, and ground crew to coordinate lifts and ensure safe positioning
• Maintenance & Inspections: Perform daily inspections, report malfunctions or hazards, and assist with minor repairs or adjustments
• Documentation: Maintain accurate logs of crane operations, loads handled, and maintenance activities
• Teamwork: Work in a fast-paced environment, often in varying weather conditions or at heights, supporting production schedules and project timelines

Qualifications

• Certification: Valid overhead crane operator certification (e.g., OSHA 10 or 30)
• Experience: Minimum 1–2 years operating overhead cranes in industrial or construction settings
• Technical Knowledge: Understanding of rigging techniques, load handling, and crane mechanics
• Physical Ability: Ability to lift heavy objects, work at heights, and operate in noisy, high-machinery environments
• Soft Skills:
• Strong attention to detail, hand-eye coordination, communication, and teamwork
• Able to communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
• Education and Experience
• High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
• Knowledge of workplace safety regulations including OSHA standards and industry best practices

Schedule

• 10-hour shift
• Day shift or 2nd shift
• Monday to Friday

Work Environment

Exposure to dust, fumes, noise and high-degree varying seasonal temperatures. Machinery with energy sources including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, or other energy.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, handle, grasp or feel; reach with hands and arms climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Additional effort requirements consist of, but are not limited to, lifting, pushing and pulling material, stairs, and ladders. When there is an occasion to move heavy material greater than 50 pounds, the operator will request assistance from another team member or utilize provided lifting equipment.
