Job summary

JSW Steel Limited is seeking an experienced Crane Operator to join our team. The Crane Operator is responsible for the safe operation of overhead electric cranes across various locations and departments, including Scrap, Charging, Ladle, Hot Metal, Casters, and Slab Cranes.

Key duties include performing pre-operation tests, signaling and signaling coordination, lifting as directed, and completing daily crane reports.

Qualifications

  • Overhead crane operation experience required (minimum 2 years).
  • Strong communication and team coordination skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
  • Flexibility to work rotating 12-hour shifts, including weekends.
  • Commitment to safety procedures and PPE.

Responsibilities

  • Operate overhead cranes safely to support production and maintenance.
  • Test brakes, hoists, sirens, lights; ensure safe crane movement.
  • Sound warning sirens and coordinate lifts.
  • Receive lift signals and execute hoists as directed.
  • Fill out daily crane reports documenting conditions.
  • Assist with other duties as needed.
  • Maintain safety and housekeeping in the crane area.

Job description

JSW Steel is seeking to hire an experienced Crane Operator to join our team.

The Crane Operator is responsible for the safe operation of overhead electric cranes. Specific cranes and lifts vary depending on location and department. Steelmaking Cranes include Scrap Cranes, Charging Cranes, Ladle or Hot Metal Cranes, Caster Floor Support Crane, and Slab Cranes.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Operate crane in a safe manner to assist production and maintenance needs.
  • Test equipment including brakes, hoist limits, sirens, lights and crane equipment prior to each operation. Observes personnel and equipment in the area of lifted objects to determine a safe movement
  • Sounds siren to warn personnel in path of lifted objects.
  • Make lifts when signaled by maintenance or operating personnel on the ground.
  • Assist with other duties outside of Crane as needed.
  • Complete and submit a daily crane report to document any unusual mechanical or electrical conditions.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 2 years of overhead crane operation experience, or substantial experience in operation of heavy equipment.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate and relay information between various departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as member of a team and perform basic skills such as reading, writing and math calculations (Candidates will be assessed as part of the hiring process).
  • Rotating 12-hour shift work, which will include Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
  • Overtime work as needed to support production schedule.
  • Adherence to safety procedures/guidelines at all times. Safety is our core value which requires you to wear safety protection such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, boots with metatarsal protection, and when necessary respirator equipment.
  • Punctuality, consistent attendance and self-direction for the success of the operations.
  • Above average mechanical aptitude is preferred.
  • Familiarity and certifications with Rigging is preferred. Additional training and certification opportunities will be available over course of employment.
Physical Demands (Bona-fide Occupational Qualifications):
  • Requires ability to perform manual labor and lift in weights excess of 50 - 100 lbs.
  • Requires mental dexterity to perform job in high pressure and time sensitive situations.
  • Requires use and dexterity of all limbs to operate multiple controls at once.
  • Requires some physical mobility to traverse the plant. This includes stairs, different terrains, uneven surfaces and ladders, while carrying equipment and supplies.
  • Primarily requires physical work while standing and sitting. There may be times when work is required while crouching, lifting overhead, lying down, and crawling under equipment.
  • Requires ability to work in harsh environments that are hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy.
  • Requires ability to comply with drug free and alcohol-free work environment. This includes illicit drugs and prescribed drugs that can affect or alter mental and physical capabilities.
  • Requires passing of pre-employment post-offer drug screen and physical.
