Crane Operator

Summary

As a Crane Operator, the position is responsible for supporting field operations for Russell Marine, LLC. The Crane Operator will operate a variety of friction or hydraulic lattice boom cranes with lifting capacities ranging from 50 tons to 440 tons to support the construction or repair of marine terminals, dock facilities, and/or railroad bridges.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Operate assigned heavy equipment (friction crane or hydraulic lattice boom cranes) safely and efficiently to lift and move materials, machinery, containers, or cargo.
  2. Utilize load charts to ensure lifts are performed within the determined load and radius capabilities of the crane.
  3. Perform daily equipment inspection of the crane and identify possible problem areas such as worn cables, worn bands on hoisting mechanisms, broken gears, housing, etc., and advise the foreman of any requirements for maintenance or repairs.
  4. Conduct daily maintenance duties such as cleaning, greasing, oiling, and fueling of assigned equipment.
  5. Inspect the rigging before lifting operations and ensure precise load placements.
  6. Assist in the assembly and disassembly of the crane and the installation of boom and hoisting cables on the crane.
  7. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Must possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or be willing/eligible to obtain one upon hire. NCCCO License for Hydraulic and Friction cranes (LBC).
  • Experience: 3 years of crane operations within the construction industry.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of construction rigging standards, ability to pass NCCCO Crane Operator DOT physical, mechanical skills, reading and using load charts, strong communication skills in English.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications: NCCER Mobile Crane and Rigger & Signal Person.
  • Experience: Marine construction or crane operation on barges.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Familiarity with marine or railroad construction terminology, OSHA and ANSI standards.
Working Conditions
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without accommodation.
  • Use of PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, life vests, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, PFDs.
  • Work near moving mechanical parts, in outdoor conditions, and in various environmental conditions.
  • Long hours, weekends, travel may be required.
  • Physical activities include walking, climbing, lifting, working at heights, and in confined spaces.
