Job description

Gerber Construction is a heavy civil contractor who self performs many of the required activities related to the construction trades. These activities may be, but are not limited to dirt work, concrete, structural steel, utility piping, mechanical piping & equipment, concrete restoration, roadway pavement, etc. The Crane Operator will assist in these activities by operating 100, 160 or 275 ton Lattice Boom Cranes and 35, 60 & 80 ton telescopic hydraulic cranes for rough terrain. The crane operator will be operating as much as possible, but also be expected to perform the duties of a skilled laborer when crane operations are not available. Applicants also need to know the essentials of proper equipment maintenance, equipment safety, lift planning, and calculating, as well as proper required rigging needed for the job.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Read, interpret, and adhere to crane lifting charts.
  • Perform pre-operational inspections including hazard assessments, calculating crane capabilities and weight to prepare a safe load movement and prepare for rigging and hoisting.
  • Operate crane and hoisting mobile equipment to lift, move, position or place materials.
  • Ensure log book and service hour’s record keeping is up to date and correct.
  • Know and follow road and crane regulations and obtaining permits for overweight highway travel.
  • Experience in general construction hand signaling (crane/excavator)
  • Has 6-12 months experience using hand tools, power (mechanical) tools, form setting, scaffolding, shoring, concrete finishing & able to read plans or prints.
  • Works with the Project Superintendent to promote a safe working environment by addressing safety issues, conducting safety inspections, and enforcing safety protocols on-site.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience as a Crane Operator for hydraulic cranes, all terrain (AT), rough terrain (RT), and truck mount hydraulic. Experience with crawler cranes is a plus.
  • Must have a recognized and active Crane Operator certificate (NCCCO, NCCER, CIC, OECP).
  • Must have either Lattice (LAT) and or Telescopic boom crane-swing cab (TLL) certification. To operate the following cranes 100, 160, and 275 ton Lattice Boom Cranes and 35, 60, and 80 ton telescopic hydraulic cranes for rough terrain.
