SUMMARY

Operates cranes to move products, equipment, or materials to and from quarries, storage areas, yards, and barges or to load and unload trucks, barges or railroad cars by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITEIS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Performs pre-shift inspections

Offloads barges

Proper rigging of loads

Proper use of lifting charts

Maintains a smooth disposition of operation

Keeps working area clean

Inspects crane for defective parts and notifies supervisor of defects of malfunctions

Cleans, maintains, and lubricates equipment

Assists with conveyor, crane, clean up tractor and winch maintenance

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversees crane helper or clean-up person

QUALIFICATIONS

Excellent hand eye coordination

Knowledge of lifting charts and international hand signals

Knowledge of river activities with the ability to deal with changing river conditions

Must like repetitive work

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

One year certificate from college or technical school, or three to six months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
