General Requirements:
- Experience in operating a Pedestal Mounted, Whirley Crane; Revolving with a Luffing Boom.
- Hold required New York State Crane Certificate(s) as required to operate above specified crane.
- Become a member or pay dues to International Union of Operating Engineers Local 14-14B.
- Possess, or be eligible to obtain, a Transit Workers Identification Card (TWIC), including ability to meet the security clearance/background check requirements.
ASR Specific Requirements:
- Operate raw sugar unloading crane as per the schedule determined by ASR.
- Maintain the performance and condition of the raw sugar crane through use of daily checklists. Work with mechanics to perform routine maintenance and emergency crane repairs as needed.
- Follow all site-wide ASR safety rules, Dock-specific safety rules, and Crane safety procedures.
- Attend daily "tailgate" meetings, monthly safety meetings, monthly environmental meetings and all other meetings as ASR determines.
Crane Operator Duties:
- Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
- Perform actions to operate cranes, cherry pickers, electromagnets, or other moving equipment for lifting, moving, or placing loads. Actions include but are not limited to: operating hand levers, depressing foot pedals, or turn dials or other analog or digital control mechanisms.
- Inspect cables or grappling devices for wear, and install or replace cables, as needed.
- Clean, lubricate, and maintain mechanisms such as cables, pulleys, or grappling devices, making repairs as necessary.
- Inspect and adjust crane mechanisms or lifting accessories to prevent malfunctions or damage.
- Review daily work or delivery schedules to determine orders, sequences of deliveries, or special loading instructions; and modify daily work based on these schedules, sequences or instructions.
