Job description

Crane Operator

Butler, IN | $23.00/hour | Full-Time | 4-Day Workweek

We are looking for an experienced Overhead Crane Operator to safely move heavy steel coils throughout a steel-processing facility. This position operates a 25/35-ton overhead crane to load and unload trucks and rail cars, move coils in and out of inventory, and keep production equipment supplied with material.

Schedule

Our regular production schedule is four 10-hour shifts, Monday through Thursday:

  • 1st Shift: 6:00 AM — 4:30 PM
  • 2nd Shift: 4:30 PM — 3:00 AM
  • Friday: Overtime may be scheduled based on production needs
  • Saturday: Voluntary when available

Employees receive an unpaid 30-minute lunch and two paid 10-minute breaks during the regular shift.

What You’ll Do
  • Operate a 25/35-ton overhead crane to safely move and position steel coils.
  • Pull coils from inventory and put incoming coils away.
  • Load and unload trucks and rail cars.
  • Load and unload production equipment.
  • Supply steel coils to slitting and other production operations.
  • Verify that the correct material is being moved and positioned.
  • Communicate with production employees to coordinate safe material movement.
  • Follow all OSHA and company safety procedures when operating cranes and handling heavy materials.
What We’re Looking For

Required:

  • Previous experience operating an overhead crane in a manufacturing, steel, fabrication, warehouse, or similar industrial environment.
  • Strong commitment to safe crane operation and material handling.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other production employees.
  • Ability to remain on your feet throughout a 10-hour production shift.
  • Ability to consistently work your assigned schedule and arrive ready to begin work on time.

Preferred:

  • Experience moving steel coils or other heavy industrial materials.
  • Experience loading or unloading trucks or rail cars with an overhead crane.
  • Experience in steel processing, metal fabrication, or a similar manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with rigging, slings, and safe practices around suspended loads.
