Job summary

Sims Metal (Sims) is seeking a Crane Operator for our Bridgeport, PA scrap metal recycling yard. The role involves loading, sorting, and feeding processing equipment using cranes, material handlers, and attachments in a demanding outdoor industrial environment.

Ideal candidates will have experience with cranes, grapples, and magnets, and a strong adherence to safety procedures. Overtime and weekend work may be required to meet production needs.

Qualifications

• Previous experience operating cranes, material handlers, excavators, or similar heavy equipment required.
• Experience working in a scrap metal recycling facility, demolition yard, or industrial environment strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with grapple and magnet attachments is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of heavy equipment safety procedures and load-handling practices.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and in a physically demanding industrial environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with ground personnel and follow directions.
• Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to recognize equipment issues.
• Must be dependable, safety-focused, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Ability to work overtime and weekends as operational needs require.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate cranes and material handlers equipped with grapples, magnets, or other attachments to move and process scrap metal.
• Load and unload trucks, trailers, railcars, and containers as needed.
• Sort and separate ferrous and non-ferrous metals according to operational requirements.
• Feed scrap metal into processing equipment, including shears, balers, and shredders, as applicable.
• Maintain an organized and safe work area while ensuring efficient material movement throughout the yard.
• Perform daily pre-operation inspections and identify potential mechanical or safety concerns.
• Monitor equipment performance and report maintenance or repair needs to supervisors.
• Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and environmental guidelines.
• Assist with general yard operations and other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and safety-conscious Crane Operator to join our scrap metal recycling facility in Bridgeport, PA. The ideal candidate will have experience operating material handlers, cranes, or similar heavy equipment in a scrap yard, recycling facility, or industrial environment.

This position safely loads and unloads scrap metal, sorts materials, feeds processing equipment, and supports daily yard operations.

Key Responsibilities
