Job summary

Sims Metal, a global leader in metal recycling, is hiring a Night Yard Supervisor in Redwood City to oversee scrap processing and maintain an accident-free, compliant site. You will supervise yard personnel, coordinate maintenance, inspections, and safety programs while ensuring efficient operations during the night shift.

Must have 3–5 years of related experience, 2 years of supervisory work, and a bachelor’s degree or equivalent; Spanish fluency is required.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years applicable industry experience
• Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience
• Willing to work in outdoor environment in all weather
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Fluency in Spanish required
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills
• Experience with mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical repairs on heavy equipment
• Commercial license (Class A) a plus
• Working knowledge of computers
• Knowledge of yard equipment (torches, cranes, loaders, forklifts, bobcats, shears, balers)

Salary Range: $110,000 to $118,000 annually

Shift: Night shift (between the hours of 3p to 3a)

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for overseeing the processing of scrap as efficiently as possible while promoting an accident-free and environmentally compliant workplace. The Yard Supervisor is also responsible for oversight of the yard personnel and day to day operations including maintenance on equipment, monthly inspections, and safety.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Works with site and regional staff, vendor/suppliers, and clients/customers.
• Operations necessary equipment to process material.
• Oversees yard operations including guiding employees.
• May order and purchases parts and equipment.
• May perform weekly and monthly inspections of all equipment and machinery.
• Schedules preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Maintains site and equipment maintenance records.
• Responsible for troubleshooting hydraulic problems and directing personnel in repairing equipment.
• Responsible for enforcement of safety regulations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Sills and Experience:

• Must have 3 – 5 years applicable industry experience or related industry.
• Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience preferred.
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience.
• Must be willing to work in shop area and outdoor environment in all types of weather.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Fluency in Spanish required.
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
• Must have excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to find suitable solutions for productivity, environmental, safety-related, and employment issues.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical repairs on heavy equipment and machinery desired.
• Commercial license (Class A) a plus.
• Must have some knowledge of computers.
• Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in a scrap yard including but not limited to: torches, cranes, loaders, forklifts, bobcats, shears, balers, and other production-related equipment.
