Job summary

MWH Constructors is seeking a Crane Manager / Crane Superintendent to lead crane operations for the Walnut Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant project in Austin, Texas. The ideal candidate will bring NCCCO certification, OSHA-10, and 5+ years of crane experience, with the ability to coordinate across multiple teams and maintain rigorous safety

About the Role:

MWH Constructors, a global leader in heavy civil construction of water and wastewater facilities, is seeking a Crane Manager / Crane Superintendent to support the Walnut Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant project in Austin, Texas.

This position serves as the primary leader for crane operations on the project, overseeing crane utilization, lift planning, scheduling coordination, and safety compliance. The Crane Manager works closely with project leadership, subcontractors, operators, maintenance personnel, and package teams to ensure crane resources are deployed safely and efficiently in support of critical construction activities.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience from the crane industry and a strong understanding of crane operations, load charts, lift planning, OSHA regulations, and field coordination. This is a highly visible, field-based role requiring strong communication skills, operational leadership, and an unwavering commitment to safety.

Essential Functions

Crane Operations Management

  • Manage day-to-day crane operations across the project.
  • Coordinate crane utilization and scheduling between subcontractors, package managers, and project teams.
  • Maintain crane projections and support long-range planning based on project schedules and upcoming work activities.
  • Monitor crane availability and utilization to ensure efficient deployment of resources.
  • Partner with equipment maintenance personnel to maximize equipment readiness and operational performance.
  • Assist with operator assignments and workforce planning as project demands evolve.

Lift Planning & Safety

  • Participate in lift planning activities and critical lift reviews.
  • Review and interpret crane load charts and lift plans.
  • Ensure crane operations are performed in accordance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Manage and oversee crane-related safety initiatives, including implementation of the project's anti-collision plan, lift planning reviews, and operational risk mitigation efforts.
  • Coordinate crane safety efforts with subcontractors and project teams.
  • Promote a proactive, safety-first culture throughout all crane operations.

Project Coordination

  • Attend daily coordination meetings, superintendent meetings, and four-week look-ahead planning sessions.
  • Work closely with package managers, field supervision, and subcontractors to forecast crane needs and resolve scheduling conflicts.
  • Coordinate crane availability across multiple work fronts and stakeholders.
  • Communicate crane constraints, priorities, and operational impacts to project leadership.
  • Support internal crane operator qualification and verification processes to ensure operators meet project and company requirements.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide day-to-day leadership for crane personnel assigned to the project.
  • Maintain a highly visible field presence, regularly engaging with operators, crews, subcontractors, and project leadership to support safe and efficient crane operations.
  • Supervise an initial team of approximately two employees, with potential growth as project needs expand.
  • Mentor and support crane operators and field personnel.
  • Drive accountability, operational excellence, and safe work practices throughout crane operations.

Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in crane operations, crane supervision, crane management, or crane-related construction activities within heavy civil, industrial, commercial, or infrastructure projects.
  • NCCCO certification required.
  • OSHA 10 Certification required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA crane regulations and industry safety standards.
  • Experience with lift planning, critical lifts, and crane utilization management.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate competing crane priorities across multiple subcontractors and construction work fronts.
  • Ability to read and interpret crane load charts and lifting documentation.
  • Experience coordinating crane activities across multiple subcontractors, crews, or project stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and understand construction schedules and proactively forecast equipment needs.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with the highest regard for safety.

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA 30 Certification.
  • Previous experience as a Crane Superintendent, Crane Foreman, Lead Operator, General Foreman, or Crane Manager.
  • Experience coordinating crane operations across multiple subcontractors and active construction work fronts.
  • Experience supporting large-scale heavy civil, industrial, infrastructure, or water/wastewater construction projects.
  • Experience managing multiple crane assets simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with crane anti-collision systems and crane safety planning.
  • Experience participating in operator qualification and training programs.
