Job Summary

The Painter maintains cosmetic appearance of the facilities and equipment as needed in all hospital owned property following all standards relating to the interior decorating profession. All Codes (NY State Building and Construction, Life Safety and DNV) will be adhered to.

Responsibilities
  • Performs skilled work in the painting and repairing of plaster and sheet rock walls, tiling floors, and wallpapering or vinyl covering walls as directed. Suggests ways to improve the quality of work and assists in the implementation.
  • Prepares surfaces for finishes to be painted, wallpapered, vinyl coated, or plastered. Prepares floors for tiling. Shows knowledge in the use, safe storage, and product handling and environmental conditions suitable for finish application.
  • Prepares furniture surfaces for finishes including sanding, stripping, staining and varnishing. Applies materials to perform the above duties taking care to be knowledgeable with the interaction of materials and the preparation of paintable surfaces including woods, metal, plastics and other man made and natural materials.
  • Fills out work orders completely and accurately with pertinent information and job deposition. Completed work orders turned in daily. Urgent work order completion status will be reported to the Supervisor one hour prior to end of shift.
  • Estimates cost and materials for assigned jobs. Uses materials to best advantage to avoid waste. Assist in specifying and obtaining materials. Maintains par stock levels of materials to handle emergencies.
  • Maintains work areas, tools and equipment in a safe, clean and orderly condition on a daily basis. Uses the proper PPE, Personal Protective Equipment, when needed and as directed.
  • Participates, as directed, in the removal of snow or ice and applies sand, salt or other substances as needed to keep all areas free from ice or snow. Uses hand or mechanical apparatus as needed to complete the job.
  • Proper clean attire with no holes in clothing.
  • Position is physically demanding. May require work outside normal working hours to include emergency calls or shift coverage. Conditions may at times be hot, cold, and dirty or wet. There is some exposure to major hazards and considerable exposure to minor hazards consistent with this line of work. Safety mechanisms are available and their use is required. Must have good vision, hearing, be fully mobile on steps, ladders etc. Must have sufficient mobility and dexterity of either hands (or mechanical substitutes) to safely operate hand and power tools. Must be able to bend, stoop and lift approximately 50-pound objects.
  • Responds as needed to hospital fires, disasters and storm emergencies as outlined in the Fire Safety and Disaster Plans for the Hospital.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements

EXPERIENCE Two years of experience in the building trades relating to painting, sheetrock, plastering and wallpapering. EDUCATION Graduation from high school or equivalent. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS Valid N.Y.S. Drivers License.
