Responsibilities

  • Complete all required course paperwork, participant records, and certification documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and properly care for CPR training equipment, AED trainers, first aid supplies, and other instructional materials.
  • Monitor equipment and supply needs and communicate deficiencies to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Stay current with American Red Cross curriculum updates, policies, procedures, and certification requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, staff, supervisors, and other instructors.

Position Type: Part Time

The CPR/AED and First Aid Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid training to staff, members, participants, and community members as assigned. This position ensures that courses are delivered in accordance with current American Red Cross standards, policies, and procedures.

The instructor creates a safe, supportive, and professional learning environment while preparing participants to respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing, and first aid emergencies. The position may also assist the Aquatics Department with staff training, certification management, and other duties related to emergency preparedness and safety.

Position Expectations
  • Maintain current American Red Cross instructor certifications and all other required credentials.
  • Arrive prepared and on time for all assigned courses.
  • Conduct all training in a professional, organized, and engaging manner.
  • Follow the American Red Cross curriculum and do not omit or alter required course content or skill evaluations.
  • Demonstrate CPR/AED and First Aid skills accurately and confidently.
  • Maintain appropriate instructor-to-participant ratios and follow all applicable safety requirements.
  • Treat all participants, members, guests, and staff with professionalism, respect, and courtesy.
  • Maintain confidentiality of participant and employee information.
  • Provide accurate and timely documentation following each course.
  • Keep training equipment clean, organized, functional, and ready for use.
  • Communicate scheduling conflicts, equipment concerns, or other issues to the appropriate supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Participate in continuing education and instructor updates necessary to remain current and effective.
Working Environment

This position may require working in classroom, aquatic, fitness, or other YMCA facility environments. The instructor may be required to demonstrate CPR, AED, and First Aid skills, including kneeling, bending, lifting, and performing physical demonstrations.

The position may include evening and weekend hours based on course scheduling and department needs.
