Job summary

Arcosa, Inc. in New Mexico seeks an experienced welding inspector trainer to conduct classroom and hands‑on VT training for inspectors and weld personnel. You will mentor candidates, administer certification exams, and ensure compliance with welding standards.

The role requires at least four years in weld inspection, strong knowledge of welding processes, and the ability to teach technical concepts. This on‑site position offers periodic travel for training, audits, and qualification activities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum four years of experience as a weld inspector, welding technician, or related welding role.
  • Strong working knowledge of welding processes, weld discontinuities, fabrication practices, and weld inspection techniques.
  • Ability to effectively teach and communicate technical concepts in both classroom and hands‑on settings.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and record‑keeping skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, specifications, and quality procedures.
  • Ability to evaluate inspector competency and provide constructive technical feedback.
  • Ability to work effectively with production personnel, engineers, weld technicians, inspectors, and management.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct classroom and practical training for VT inspectors and weld inspection personnel.
  • Deliver hands‑on training focused on weld discontinuity recognition, weld acceptance criteria, inspection techniques, and inspection documentation.
  • Mentor and coach inspector candidates to improve technical knowledge and inspection proficiency.
  • Administer visual acuity examinations in accordance with certification requirements.
  • Administer examinations for VT Level II candidates.
  • Track, verify, and maintain NDT experience hours required for certification and recertification.
  • Conduct overchecks and audits of wind tower sections to verify inspection effectiveness and compliance.
  • Perform quarterly technical reviews and inspector performance evaluations as required.
  • Identify trends and opportunities for improvement in inspection and welding processes.
  • Collaborate with Welding Engineering, QA, Manufacturing Leadership, and NDE to improve welding quality.
  • Provide guidance on weld quality requirements, inspection methods, and acceptance criteria.
  • Perform visual weld inspections and related quality activities to support production needs.
  • Assist with special projects, audits, customer visits, and quality investigations.
  • Travel periodically to support training, audits, qualification activities, or other business needs.

  • Administer General, Specific, and Practical examinations for VT Level II candidates.
  • Track, verify, and maintain NDT experience hours required for initial certification and recertification of inspection personnel.
  • Conduct overchecks and audits of previously accepted wind tower sections to verify inspection effectiveness and compliance.
  • Perform quarterly technical reviews and inspector performance evaluations as required.
  • Identify trends, recurring defects, and opportunities for improvement in inspection and welding processes.
  • Collaborate with Welding Engineering, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Leadership, and NDE personnel to improve welding quality and inspection effectiveness.
  • Provide technical guidance and support regarding weld quality requirements, inspection methods, and acceptance criteria.
  • Perform visual weld inspections and related quality activities on an as‑needed basis to support production requirements.
  • Assist with special projects, audits, customer visits, and quality investigations as required.

Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum four years of experience as a weld inspector, welding technician, or related welding role.

  • Experience working within manufacturing, heavy fabrication, wind tower, structural steel, or pressure vessel environments.
  • Familiarity with NDT certification requirements and industry standards.
