Job Details

Recruit, screen, interview, select, orient, teach, supervise, and evaluate CPE Interns. Conduct some didactics and verbatim sessions for CPE Residents. Offer significant assistance with orientation for CPE Residents. Assist with, and in some cases have primary responsibility for, administrative functions related to the CPE program. Other tasks as assigned by the Manager of Chaplaincy Services. Maintain the standards of the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. (ACPE), which is a multicultural, multifaith organization dedicated to improving the quality of ministry and pastoral care offered by spiritual caregivers of all faiths through the educational method of CPE.

As a Staff Chaplain, provide spiritual care to patients, families, staff, and volunteers. Assess the spiritual, religious, and emotional needs of individuals and develop care plans to address those needs either directly or indirectly. Coordinate additional chaplaincy care at the assigned location as requested by the Manager of Chaplaincy Services.

As a skilled pastoral caregiver, communicate effectively within the context of the other person's frame of reference with patients, families, and colleagues.

Job Description
  1. Manage all applications and correspondence related to the CPE Internship.
  2. Recruit, screen, interview, and select all CPE Interns.
  3. Plan and implement CPE Intern orientation.
  4. Evaluate CPE Interns according to ACPE standards.
  5. Plan, organize, teach, and supervise the Clinical Pastoral Education intern program (extended unit).
  6. Conduct some of the CPE Residents' didactics and verbatim sessions, in coordination with the Chaplaincy Manager.
  7. Work effectively with a diverse student group and patient population.
  8. Provide significant assistance with Resident Orientation to the Chaplaincy Manager.
  9. Perform administrative functions as assigned by the Chaplaincy Manager.
  10. Provide for the spiritual and religious needs of patients, families, staff, and volunteers at the Elkins Park campus, including acute care patients and Moss Rehab inpatients.
  11. Assess spiritual and emotional needs and respond appropriately.
  12. Participate in, supervise, or facilitate support groups for patients, families, and staff.
  13. Collaborate with staff chaplains and other healthcare team members.
  14. Maintain endorsement in good standing with one's faith group.
  15. Engage in continuing education through academic studies, seminars, and workshops. Participate in professional organizations.
  16. Work collegially with clergy of all faiths.
  17. Maintain relationships with community religious organizations and seminaries to support a multifaith, multicultural CPE program grounded in a Jewish model of pastoral care.
  18. Participate in Network committees as assigned.
  19. Assist in providing in-service education related to CPE and pastoral care issues.
  20. Support the department's goal of fostering an inclusive environment where differences are accepted and valued.
  21. Engage in activities to expand knowledge of cultures, ethnic groups, and religions.
  22. Maintain open and honest communication within the department.
  23. Strive for continuous improvement and ask insightful questions.
Qualifications
  • ACPE Certification as an ACPE Certified Educator.
  • Minimum of Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Certified Chaplain with APC, NACC, or NAJC.
  • Experience developing, supervising, and managing an accredited CPE program. Experience working with diverse student and patient populations.
  • Experience working as part of a patient's care team.
  • Knowledge of major faith groups, pastoral theology, loss and grief dynamics, crisis theory, and intervention.
  • Proficiency with technology.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
