Job description

CPD&D Laboratory Assistant

Schedule: 40 hours/week, Monday to Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm

Interview Process: Phone interview followed by on-site interview

Candidate Requirements:

• Experience prioritized over education; prior greenhouse and lab experience preferred
• Educational background: AS/BS Degree in Biology, Plant Science preferred but not required; MS considered overqualified
• Ability to lift 25 lbs
• Medical Surveillance: PAPR - OSHA Respiratory Evaluation required
• Exposure to allergens such as insects, plants, chemicals, latex
• Non-local/remote candidates are not considered
• Driving is not required

Position Details:

This role is within the biology group focused on new herbicide discovery, involving work in both labs and greenhouses.

Responsibilities include:

1. Transplanting plants for testing
2. Moving carts between lab and greenhouse
3. Trimming plant material
4. Mixing herbicide application solvents
5. Formulating and applying herbicidal compounds
6. Weighing plant samples
7. Assessing plant injury
8. Bagging plant material for de-vitalization
9. Data entry
10. Cleaning and maintaining labs

Work Conditions & Skills:

Work involves various greenhouse conditions, including warm and cool environments. Candidates must be comfortable working closely with plant material, independently, and in small teams. Training will be provided; background in plant biology or horticulture is beneficial.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s degree preferred.
