Job summary

TCA Health Inc.- NFP invites applications for a CPA Assistant Level II to support WIC visits in our Chicago clinic. The role includes clerical duties, data collection, and basic nutrition counseling under CPA supervision.

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED completed and/or Dietetic Student pursuing bachelor’s degree.
  • One year of related work experience preferred.
  • It is preferred that CPA Assistants share characteristics with WIC participants.

Responsibilities

  • Collect participant anthropometric data and document in WIC MIS.
  • Provide basic, low-risk nutrition education and breastfeeding counseling.
  • Explain WIC program purpose and key features (WPE).
  • Document assessments and nutrition education per IL WIC standards.
  • Select core food packages and schedule follow-up visits.

POSITION SUMMARY

The CPA Assistant is an individual who is authorized to assist with WIC visits who does not have the qualifications of a Competent Professional Authority (CPA) and is responsible for the clerical functions related to WIC program services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(include but are not limited to the following)

  • Collecting and documenting participant anthropometric data, bloodwork, in WIC MIS.
  • Level 2 CPA Assistants can offer low risk certifications/recertifications and mid-certification visits
  • Offering basic, low risk nutrition education and breastfeeding counseling and support.
  • Providing an explanation of Program’s purpose and key operational features per Addendum
  • Level 2 CPA Assistants can provide information related to core food packages, use of EBT Card and WIC ID card explanation.
  • Level 2 CPA can also complete the Breastfeeding, Health, and Nutrition screens in WIC MIS
  • Low risk education and counseling may be provided by a CPA2 during certification or secondary education visits. (If determined during the visit that a participant is high-risk, the CPAA may complete any basic low risk education and counseling and then make a referral for high-risk follow up per agency’s approved WPP procedure.)
  • Providing an explanation of WIC Program’s purpose and key operational features (WPE)
  • Make and document appropriate referrals according to Guidelines for Referrals for CPA 2 Assistants.
  • Document the participant assessment and nutrition education per the NPS Documenting in WIC MIS (IL WIC PM CS 11.3).
  • Selecting a core food package to be issued.
  • Completing low risk secondary education visits per IL WIC PM NE 5.
  • Schedule subsequent visits.
  • Low risk participants may be scheduled with any competent professional authority (CPA or CPAA).
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum High School Diploma/GED completed and/or Dietetic Student who has not yet completed a bachelor’s degree in an accredited nutrition program, and/or hours of supervised practice and/or passed the national exam.
  • Minimum of one year of related work experience preferred.
  • It is preferred that CPA Assistants be of the community with similar characteristics (i.e., age, race, cultural ethnicity, education, and socioeconomic level) of WIC participants.
