Job summary

Give For a Smile seeks a Covered CA/Medical Enrollment Counselor to educate and enroll Latino families across Orange, LA, and Inland Empire counties in English and Spanish. You will conduct outreach events, workshops, and support Medi-Cal, BenefitsCal, and Covered CA enrollments under the Program Director's supervision.

The role requires fluency in English and Spanish, a valid CA driver’s license, a college degree, and experience engaging Latino communities.

  • College degree required.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Covered CA/Medical Enrollment Counselor will conduct outreach events, educational workshops, and Medi-Cal, BenefitsCal, and Covered CA enrollments for the Latino community and families in Orange, LA, and IE counties in English and Spanish. The applicant must be fluent in English and Spanish.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Identifies and secures potential sites and groups to conduct outreach and provide educational activities in the assigned county or region.

Outreach/Education Activities
  • Organize workshops in person and online using Zoom.
  • Perform outreach activities at diverse locations for Latino communities eligible for Medi-Cal, Benefit's Cal, and/or Covered CA.
  • Deliver educational material and help keep Latino communities informed regarding new laws and propositions regarding Medical eligibility.
Enrollment activities
  • Access different providers' portals to perform enrollments, verify status, and maintain client retention in their selected health plans.
  • Coordinate currently established enrollment activities.
  • Request and follow up with forms and reports CHWs must submit after every activity performed.
  • Establish new collaborative/partnerships.
  • Attend meetings on behalf of GFAS.
  • Maintain and submit timely, accurate, up-to-date records and files on all outreach, education, and enrolment conducted, including any documentation regarding the requirements for eligibility and compliance with services.
  • Maintains consistent and constant communication with the Program Director when requested regarding all program components and attends scheduled meetings with the program team.
  • Be computer savvy. Able to set up and use Zoom for meetings; use Canva to develop publishing materials; use MS Teams for internal communication; and use MS Outlook to perform basic functions such as sending, creating, and/or replying to emails.
  • Flexible schedule for some of the outreach activities is after hours.
  • Have reliable transportation.
Minimum Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty, such as being technically inclined and able to work with technology. You must also be able to surf the Internet using different internet browsers and devices such as Laptops, Tablets, and/or computers. Education

College degree.

Experience
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience working with monolingual and/or bilingual Latino communities.
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations
  • Valid certification from the State of California as a Covered California and MediCal/BenefitsCal enrollment counselor. Upon selection, we will provide training if you do not have these certifications.
  • Valid California Driver’s License and basic liability insurance.
Language Skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general reports, procedures, or regulations.
  • Ability to complete basic reports and write basic business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals, groups, and the general public in English and Spanish. Because of the population served, the ability to read, write, and speak in English and Spanish is required.
Computer Skills
  • Basic computer skills for data entry, sending and receiving email, calendar scheduling, creating folders, having login credentials, and being acquainted with password and security procedures to protect and save data.
Travel Requirements
  • Ability to travel locally within the assigned region as required. Ability to travel to multiple locations in one day within the designated region as assigned.
