Job summary

Octus in New York seeks an experienced leveraged loans lawyer to join its Global Covenants team. You will analyze credit agreements, provide pragmatic legal analysis, and engage with top market participants.

This role offers high responsibility, autonomy, and the flexibility to work remotely. You will collaborate with analysts, journalists, and lawyers to deliver insights and develop Octus products for subscribers.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in leveraged finance, focusing on leveraged loans/private debt in a top law firm.
• Exceptional legal technical skills with the ability to uncover insights in complex documents.
• Strong commercial acumen with clear, pragmatic legal analysis.
• Able to multitask and work independently or in a fast-paced team environment.
• Confident communicator with concise writing for the intended audience.

Responsibilities

Octus’ lawyers deliver trusted real-time legal insights in the debt markets. Our Global Covenants team is looking for an experienced leveraged loans lawyer in New York (with the option to work fully remote).

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze credit agreements, identifying key loopholes and novel provisions, to provide actionable insights to the primary and secondary capital markets.
• Break-down complex documentation and summarize it clearly and concisely for a diverse audience across the buy-side and the sell-side
• Answer questions from leveraged finance market participants on loan covenants and their implications in real-world scenarios
• Engage with market participants and build your profile through seminars, webinars and podcasts
• Leverage Octus’ industry-leading databases to provide our subscribers a competitive edge
• Collaborate closely with other Octus experts to produce industry leading covenant analysis, generate data-backed trendlines, and develop Octus’ products.
• Build and nurture relationships with Octus clients and industry contacts.
• Represent Octus at industry events and conferences, and in dealings with the press.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience working in leveraged finance, with a focus on leveraged loans/private debt in a top law firm
• Exceptional legal technical skills with a passion for diving deep into documentation and the ability to uncover insights that others may miss
• Strong commercial acumen with a desire to provide clear, pragmatic and actionable legal analysis
• The ability to multitask and work both independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment with people from varied professional backgrounds.
• A confident communicator, who writes in a clear and concise manner for the intended audience.
• A proven track record of delivering high quality analysis within deadlines
• Qualified to practice New York law.

If we identify a role that would be suitable for a broader range of skills and experience such that we would consider hiring at multiple levels then the range listed below may reflect that breadth.

The salary range estimate for this position is $230,000 - $300,000.

The actual compensation will be at Octus’ sole discretion and will be determined by the aforementioned and other relevant factors.
