Job summary

National Center for State Courts aims to advance justice systems through data-driven insights. A seasoned Data Scientist will join the Technology, Data, and Knowledge Management team to enhance project designs, workflows, and outputs.

The role emphasizes statistical modeling, NLP/LLM workflows, data governance, and communicating results via reports and dashboards to judges and staff. Occasional travel is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in statistics, data science, CS, or quantitative social science.
• 5+ years of professional data analysis experience, including at least 2 years applying statistical modeling or machine learning.
• Applied statistics, including regression, hypothesis testing, and research design.
• Hands-on NLP or LLM experience with real-world text, such as text classification or entity extraction.
• Proficiency in Python and R.

Responsibilities

• Own the analysis on court-funded projects; define questions, select methods, and deliver results.
• Apply statistical methods to court data to answer operational questions like processing time and caseload.
• Build NLP/LLM pipelines to extract and structure information from court documents.
• Validate models and document methods and limitations for clients.
