Job summary

The Riverside County Sheriff's Office seeks multiple Court Deputies to safeguard security in the Superior Courts across Riverside County. Deputies maintain courtroom order, assist judges, and help serve civil and criminal documents and process court paperwork.

As peace officers, incumbents may also transport inmates, respond to court needs, and provide support in civil/criminal matters. Candidates must meet POST requirements and be U.S. citizens by time of appointment.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school, a California Certificate of Proficiency, or a satisfactory GED score.
• California Driver's License is required.
• POS T: Basic, Intermediate or Advanced Certificate; or completion of POST Basic Academy.
• If three years have passed since employment as a full-time peace officer in CA, completion of the POST Equivalency Exam is required before employment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain security in Superior Court and enforce court regulations; preserve order among spectators and participants.
• Respond to judges' or commissioners' requests for assistance.
• Oversee jurors during deliberations and address inquiries from jury members and others.
• Take defendants into custody; arrange transportation for court and jury for scenes in question.
• Obtain and deliver requested legal papers, books, and documents.
• Transport inmates to and from the courtroom and detention facility.
• When not needed in courtrooms, serve limited civil and criminal documents or assist with office paperwork.
