Job summary

The Personnel Board of Jefferson County is seeking Bailiff/Court Security personnel within the Merit System to support court operations and ensure the safety of visitors, employees, and detainees in courthouse and courtroom settings.

Position includes serving in Birmingham area jurisdictions with pay ranges varying by employing agency, and requires valid driver license, firearms capability, and pepper spray certification within 90 days if needed.

Qualifications

• Must have valid driver license.
• Must be legally able to carry a firearm.
• Willing and able to obtain pepper spray certification within 90 days if required.
• Willingness to work in a hostile environment.
• Willingness to use physical restraint to detain individuals.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, maintain, and retrieve files to assist court officers before and during court sessions.
• Prepare courtroom for hearings and manage defendant flow through the process.
• Provide customer service via phone, email or in person.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and awareness of relevant laws and policies.
• Provide security to the presiding judge and attendees; enforce rules for safety and order.
