Job summary

Frederick County Government is seeking a Deputy Sheriff Lateral for the Court Security Unit. This uniformed role provides security to the County Courthouse, visitors, personnel and prisoners under FCSO custody, reporting to the Court Security Unit Sergeant.

The position requires current MPCTC certification or comparable certification, a 21+ age, US citizenship and a valid driver's license, with a comprehensive benefits package and potential overtime; training and supervision are included.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 21 years.
• U.S.A. citizenship.
• High school graduation or the equivalent.
• Current Law Enforcement certification by the MPCTC or comparable certification.
• Possession of a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Work Court Security posts as assigned.
• Perform full-service law enforcement and civil process duties; enforce laws related to Court operations and Courthouse security.
• Provide information and assistance to individuals in the Courthouse and courtrooms; provide courtroom security and order; conduct court room searches.
• Arrest and cite individuals who commit offenses.
• Maintain records of daily activities; report unusual occurrences and incidents.
• Provide training of newly assigned deputies.
• Ensure proper staffing of posts are maintained.
• Respond to and assist security personnel as problems arise.
• Process and serve paperwork including protective orders and warrants.
