Job Summary

The work involves communication and interaction with adult offenders under the court's jurisdiction and with other parties concerned in the investigation and preparation of reports for the court.

Job Duties

• Supervision of offenders on pretrial and probation supervision.
• Assisting offenders in understanding and meeting requirements that have been placed upon them.
• Assisting offenders in identifying needs and appropriate resources.
• Attending morning First Appearance dockets and preparing criminal history reports.
• Preparation of reports related to the transfer of supervision, case reports, violation reports, risk assessments (LSIR, LSCMI, WRNA, SASSI).
• Works closely with resource agencies in the community.
• Maintaining current and accurate case records.
• Work is performed independently or in teams under the general direction of a senior Court Services Officer and is reviewed through staffing, reports, and caseload audits.

Job duties are subject to change based on the needs of the agency and court.

Upon successful completion of 12 months of probationary term, limited remote work privileges may be considered.

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in a social services field (such as psychology, sociology, social work, criminal justice, corrections) from an accredited university is required.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• All applicants must pass a named-based criminal history check.
• If employed by Court Services, the new employee will need to pass a fingerprint-based criminal history check within the first thirty days of employment.

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills

• Strong verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.
• Interpersonal skills are required with the ability to interact respectfully with both clients and stakeholders.
• Knowledge of best practices in probation/ pretrial supervision is preferred.
• A familiarity working with justice-involved clients experiencing trauma, mental health, and/or substance use is preferred.

Preferred qualifications

A minimum of one year experience in one or more of the following within the past five years:

• Conducting interviews
• Writing formal reports
• Working with justice-involved individuals
• Working with clients with substance abuse and/or mental health issues
