United States Courts in Orlando seeks two full-time Court Services Clerks to support the jury department, case administration, and courtroom operations. One will be primary jury clerk, the other backup, with additional duties across court administration as needed.
Responsibilities include jury logistics, CM/ECF entries, courtroom support, and coordinating with chambers. A strong customer service orientation and solid computer skills are essential; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
Overview of the Position The Middle District of Florida seeks two mission-driven professionals to serve as full-time Court Services Clerks in the Orlando division. The ideal candidates possess excellent interpersonal, computer, and analytical skills; a strong work ethic; and resilience. These positions play an important role in supporting the Court’s operations and providing exceptional service. Both positions will support the jury department, case administration, and courtroom operations, with responsibilities varying based on assignment. One position will serve as the primary jury clerk, while the second position will serve as the backup jury clerk. Both positions will also have additional responsibilities in case administration, as a back-up courtroom deputy clerk, or a combination of both.
Jury: Provides superior customer service to jurors and the court. Assists with jury logistics, including orientation, parking, lodging, and procuring and obtaining refreshments. Assists with a variety of administrative tasks, including juror attendance and payment, juror qualification, juror vouchers, juror utilization, records, statistics, and the telephonic response system. Operates the Jury Management System. Coordinates with chambers regarding calendaring and juror needs.
Case Administration: Receives and reviews incoming documents to determine conformity with appropriate rules and court requirements. Covers the intake window on rotation. Collects appropriate fees. Makes summary entries of all documents and proceedings in cases in CM/ECF. Performs quality control on documents filed in CM/ECF. Ensures that all entries are appropriately linked for proper case management. Prepares and transmits court documents to appropriate parties. Supports all other areas within the office, as necessary.
Courtroom Deputy: Attends and records court sessions and conferences. Assists with the orderly flow of proceedings, including preparing the courtroom, organizing exhibits, assuring the presence of all necessary participants, assisting witnesses and jurors, and maintaining courtroom decorum. Takes notes of proceedings and rulings and prepares minute entries for the record. Manages the electronic evidence presentation system and the custody of court exhibits. Serves as a primary source of information about courtroom equipment and the court schedule. Drafts judgments and other orders for the judge's approval. Utilizes reports and information from the automated case management system and ensures the accuracy of statistical reporting.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requires a professional, cooperative, and congenial demeanor at all times and strong administrative, organizational, analytical, and writing ability. Requires solid computer skills, preferably with Word, Windows, and Office 365. Bachelor's degree preferred. Legal experience preferred.
*Starting salary adjustments prioritize prior federal service, with some recognition of relevant work experience and prior salary history. Applicants with prior federal court experience may be eligible for a starting salary above the minimum.
