Job summary

Illinois Commerce Commission is seeking a Court Reporter to transcribe verbatim testimony in ICC hearings and other proceedings. You will prepare and certify transcripts, deliver copies to parties, and maintain accessible records for legal filings.

Travel across Illinois will be required. The role requires completion of a court reporting program and an Illinois shorthand reporter certificate, with duties including attending hearings and producing timely transcripts.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of a recognized court reporting program with stenography courses.
• Requires valid Illinois Certificate of Registration as a certified shorthand reporter.

Responsibilities

• Attends court hearings and depositions, maintaining neutrality throughout proceedings.
• Records verbatim testimony including questions, answers, and objections.
• Complies with statutes, orders, court rules, and regulations.
• Prepares and certifies complete transcriptions of evidence and testimony.
• Transcribes notes via CAT for transcripts; assigns notes for transcription.
• Inserts supplemental material in transcripts as notated in records.
• Keeps a monthly report of transcripts on order and files original reports.
• Reads proceedings to attorneys from notes when transcript is not requested.
• Maintains a daily log of cases reported and transcribed; enters information as electronic records.
• Emails transcripts, faxes documents, and prepares filings of case records; responds to inquiries.
• Travels to hearing sites statewide as needed.
• Performs other duties as required within scope of duties.
