Job summary

Collin County’s District Court is seeking a Court Officer to provide safety and security for the judge, courtroom personnel and attendees. The role involves maintaining order, handling potential problems, supervising inmate movement and making arrests when necessary to ensure smooth courtroom operations.

The candidate should have a high school diploma, at least two years of law enforcement experience, TCOLE certification, and a Texas driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Education equivalent to a high school diploma.
• Minimum two years of law enforcement experience.
• Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) certification.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License.
• Must complete steps for TCOLE Peace Officer license with the Sheriff's Office (history, background, psychological, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Maintain order and safety for the judge, courtroom staff and others in the courtroom.
• Manage court docket and security for proceedings.
• Coordinate juries by transporting jurors, seating, and guarding during deliberations.
• Research outstanding warrants and process defendants who do not appear.

Job description

Collin County is seeking candidates for the position of Court Officer- District Court. Reporting to the District Judge. A Court Officer is responsible for, but not limited to, providing safety and security for the judge, courtroom personnel and others in the courtroom.

Primary Functions

• Provides safety and security for the judge, courtroom personnel and others in the courtroom by maintaining order and security, recognizing and handling potential problems, supervising inmate movement and making arrests when necessary.
• Handles and controls the court docket.
• Coordinates jury panels by transporting jurors, assisting with seating, striking the jury list, retrieving witnesses and maintaining security outside the jury room during deliberations.
• Researches outstanding warrants and processes defendants who do not appear.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Candidates must possess a level of education equivalent to four years of high school.
• Requires at least two years of experience in Law Enforcement.
• Must have Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Certification.
• Candidates must possess and maintain a valid Texas Operator’s Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
• Candidates will be required to work with the Collin County Sheriff's Office to complete the required steps for their TCOLE Peace Officer license to be held by the Sheriff's Office. These steps include, but are not limited to:
• Personal History Statement and required documentation
• Background check
• Psychological test
• F5R verification
