Job summary

The Unified Judicial System in South Dakota is seeking a Deputy Court Clerk - Magistrate I for Onida or Gettysburg. This is a temporary, part-time, on-call position at 10 hours per week, providing essential court support from filing to disposition and customer service to a diverse public.

Responsibilities include maintaining case files, assisting with calendars, and performing magistrate duties as needed, with duties expanding as required by the circuit.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED and one year of general clerical experience.
• Must be a citizen of the United States, resident of South Dakota, and a voting resident within the circuit.
• Successful completion of a criminal background investigation required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain case files for criminal, civil, traffic, and other cases from initial filing to final disposition.
• Assist in maintaining court calendars by scheduling hearings.
• Provide customer service and information about court procedures to ensure correct information.
• Assist in courtrooms by maintaining case files and minutes, handling exhibits, empaneling juries, and recording proceedings.
• Perform magistrate duties as assigned to aid the circuit court in disposing civil actions.
• Perform other work as assigned.
